Oakshade Raceway-Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 6:48 pm

July 17th- Oakshade Raceway Park (Wauseon, OH) The final night of the UMP summer nationals with 58 cars present for the highest car count of the tour. Had a little more confidence than last night and was ready to start it off right. I qualified second quick in group number four as Summer National champ Jason Feger out qualified me by only seven thousandths of a second. The heat races started heads up and I was able to steal the lead off the start and lead every lap for the heat race win. Redrew the number five starting position for the feature. Tire selection was key as the race track was hard to read after the track officials watered and reworked the track before the 60 lap feature. The race started a little under the gun as the track was still a little greasy. I fell back to 8th as I went with harder tires and needed the track to come in more. By lap ten I started to get some heat in the tires and charge back to the front. On lap 28 I was back to fifth working to pass the three cars bunched up in front of me. As I tried to sneak under Feger I missed my mark and clipped the inside tire smashing my nose into a form of a snow plow. Everytime I hit my brakes I would push like a freight train. I tired rolling around the top so I didn’t have to use my brakes and keep my nose in the air. Once I lost my spring cup on the left front I pushed off the race track and could not control the car. I was unable to continue and held yet another disappointing finish.

Attica Raceway Park-Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 6:48 pm

July 16th- Attica Raceway Park (Attica, OH) JHR is finally back in action after suffering damage at the Dream that postpone us for about a month of racing action. 50 cars in attendance for this summer national’s event. I was 9th fastest in group four and had to shake it off and make some changes to the racecar. Only the top four would transfer out of the heat so I had some work to do. After a ten lap heat race I was able to rally my way from ninth to the fourth and final transfer position locking me into the A-main with a 16th place starting spot. I felt like I had a car that could go to the front with the right tire selection and adjustments. As we lined up for the feature a couple cars dropped out in front of me which then started me in 14th. When the green flagged waved I wasted no time and started my charge to the front. I worked the bottom of the race track to my advantage picking off one to two cars at a time. By lap seven I was already up to the seventh place position. I continued to crawl to front and briefly passed Matt Miller for third but fell back to fourth. I followed in line as the racetrack started to move to the top. The top of turn one and two was tricky and if you over charged the corner it was easy to get caught slipping off the banking. Unfortunaly I slipped off the track and lost a couple spots. I rode around in 6th until the final lap were I was spun out from behind and launched out of the ball park. All that hard work was wasted with one final turn to go.

Eldora Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 10:50 am

June 19th Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, OH) 31 Modifieds. Drew a 71 and started 10th in the second heat race. A surprising heavy race track made it hard for passing but I still managed to climb my way to a fourth place finish. The track didn’t change a whole lot from the heats, the speeds were about the same but the groove had moved up on the race track making for a little more passing. I started 11th in the feature and knew there was no time to wait around. I quickly picked off one car at a time and after sixteen laps I found myself passing for second place. A late red flag with two laps to go bunched the field back together. Eldora leaves laps cars in the spot they were running so I restarted in the fourth position with a lap car in-between first and second. Unfortunately I felt like I had the car to win the race but the lap car did not help the situation. And one more lap wouldn’t have help either because coming out of turn four on final lap my motor had broke and I had to coasted to the finish line. I was able to get by the second place car and the lap car in one turn and just didn’t have enough time to catch the leader. Strong finish though and still maintained the points lead at Eldora.

Dream Week Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 9:02 am

June 9th Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, OH) My Dream week started on Wednesday as Travis Pastrana and I teamed together for a great charity event at the ‘Gilette Fusion ProGlide Prelude to the Dream’. It was an awesome opportunity to be a part of this event with Pastrana and Red Bull. Travis and I got a chance to test the day before at Waynesfield Raceway Park to help get him comfortable with the racecar. He was a natural from the start and I felt really comfortable with him behind the wheel. Eldora is a totally different animal then the track we tested at but Travis was up for the challenge and really surprised a lot of people. His ability to have great throttle control and able to steer his way out of trouble made him seem like no rookie to the sport. The end result didn’t look as good on paper as he did in the car when on the final lap of the race a rock had hit the emergency kill switch causing the car to lose power before crossing the finish line. Although Travis is a fierce competitor he understands that these cars take a lot of seat time to really master but he was still extremely happy and very thankful for his opportunity.

I would personally like to thank Travis Pastrana, Red Bull, and Eldora Speedway for letting me take part in the great event!

TRAVIS PASTRANA, (Finished 23rd):
What did you think of your first dirt Late Model race?
“It was good, but it started out really rough. I came into the first turn and everyone turned left really hard to go to the inside. I did a quick spin and got back going. It was cool, though, because I was running with Ricky (Carmichael) most of the time, so I was either right behind him or in front of him the whole time. And then … you see this tire mark I put there on the front of his car? I got some good air getting launched off the front of Ricky’s car. Then, the last few laps was actually where I started feeling good in the car. I really like the restarts, where they put everyone close together, where I actually was able to start picking off some people. Still, I was way in the back, but I felt really good. The car was great. It took me a long time to get it figured out. I started out using high lines, low lines, until I finally found a groove that started working for me with about 20 laps to go. I definitely want to practice a little before I come back. But, definitely, this is really cool.”

June 11th-13th Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, OH) Qualified 69th out of 104 entries with a 16.791. Not my best attempted but after making a lot of changes to the racecar I had little time to figure things out. I started 12th in the fourth heat and had a great run up to 6th until I jumped the cushion on both ends causing me to fall back to an 8th place finish. After all the heats were completed the rain had begun causing Eldora to cancel the rest of the program and reschedule for Sunday morning. I was to start 10th in the c-main with 6 cars transferring. Unfortunately the first turn of the c-main was all I lasted as my car suffered a lot of damage from a six car pileup. Not a good way to end the very long weekend but hopefully we can regroup and get things back together soon.

Jon Henry Racing Teams With Travis Pastrana and Red Bull for Gillette Fusion ProGlide “Prelude to the Dream”

ADA, OH (6/2/10) – One of the most exciting entrants in the 2010 Gillette Fusion ProGlide Prelude to the Dream, Travis Pastrana, will be teaming with one of the most exciting drivers in dirt Late Model racing, Jon Henry.

It was recently announced that five-time United States amateur motorcross champion Travis Pastrana would be participating in the 2010 Gillette Fusion ProGlide Prelude to the Dream, but what wasn’t set in stone was whose car Pastrana would be wheeling in the June 9th spectacular at Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway. The details have now been finalized and Pastrana will be piloting a Red Bull sponsored Rocket Chassis owned by Ada, Ohio’s Jon Henry.

“This is an unbelievable opportunity for him,” said Henry, the defending Sunoco American Late Model Series Champion. “Given his talent and everything he has accomplished, I’m sure he will be a quick learner in his first ever stint behind the wheel of a dirt Late Model.”

The pairing of Pastrana – the most successful competitor in the history of the X-Games’ freestyle motorcross and an iconic New Year’s Eve daredevil – with Henry could not have been better scripted as their likeable personalities and no-holds-barred driving styles make this combination a match made in Heaven. Pastrana’s Prelude ride, a Red Bull Racing #199, will be donning a sleek wrap courtesy of Wide Open Graphics in Lima, Ohio.

“I’m not just excited for Travis, I’m also excited for our race team,” Henry said. “We’re hoping this exposure might be a step in the right direction for other great opportunities.”

In addition to serving as a mentor for Pastrana, Henry will also be racing his own UMP Modified at the Prelude to the Dream. Henry, who leads the current Eldora Speedway UMP Modified point standings, won the Mod portion of the event in 2008.

Eldora Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 10:35 am

May 30th- Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, OH) ALMS 36 cars. Drew a 152 and qualified 5th fastest in group number three with a 16.8. Start 5th in the third heat race and finish 4th. The track was fast in the heat and our motor was getting warmer than I would like. I figured the track would slow down and the temperature would be a little cooler out which would hopefully help. I had to start all the way back in 15th but didn’t waste much time back there as I slowly worked my way into the top ten. A caution had waved with five to go and my temp gauge was maxed out. I waited till the green flag waved to see if it would drop down so I could finish the race but there wasn’t enough change so I decided to pulled off. The motor wasn’t pushing any water out so it might not of been as hot as the gauge was showing. We’re going to try a few things this week to help keep everything a little cooler as we prepare for the dream week at Eldora.
