Week 10 Results

Mt. Pleasant Speedway, Mt. Pleasant, MI (05/27/2011) Sunoco American Late Model Series event. 28 Late Models. Qualified 9th quick in group one, started 9th in the first heat race finished 7th. Started 4th in the B-main, DNF. Took a provisional for the feature, started 21st finished 6th. Rough start with a nice finish. No hotlaps just straight to qualifying, and with this only being my second time ever at the speedway that really hurt me in qualifying. Tough to pass in the heat as the racing surface was one groove. I struggled in the b-main sliding off the top of the race track twice and almost flipping the car. I had to take a provisional for the feature and knew survival was key. I dodged wrecks left and right but was still able to keep my nose clean and pull off a top ten finish.

Eldora Speedway, Rossburg, OH (05/29/2011) Sunoco American Late Model Series event. 41 Late Models. First night driving the #11 for Mike Lawrence Motorsports. Qualified 6th quick in group three, started 6th in the third heat race finished 5th. Started 1st in the second B-main finished 1st. Started 18th in the feature finished 14th. Getting comfortable in the new ride took a little time but we weren’t far off. Definitely a learning curve but I’m pretty confident I can get the eleven car to the front.

Week 9 Recap: The frustration starts to sets in. The whole month of May has been a battle to the front. New race tracks and different challenges have set us back from the winners circle. Although there are still plenty of positives, it’s getting harder to see through the negatives. I’m really hoping to capitalize on Week 10 as we head back to what were familiar to.

Kankakee County Speedway, Kankakee, IL (05/20/2011) Sunoco American Late Model Series event. 36 Late Models. Qualified 4th quick in group three, started on the pole of the third heat race. Won the third heat race and redrew the number two starting position for the feature. Started 2nd in the feature finished 4th. Not a bad run for our first time ever at the speedway. We went a little softer on tires then most guys and it seemed to hurt us a little bit. Good way to start off the series with a top five where consistency pays off.

Fairbury Speedway, Fairbury, IL (05/21/2011) Sunoco American Late Model Series event. 37 Late Models. Qualified third quick in group two, started third in the second heat race. Finished 2nd in the heat after a side by side battle with Jeep Vanwormer for the win, just came up a little short at the checker. Started 6th in the feature finished 7th. I fell back early and almost had been taken out but rallied back and made the high side work for a solid finish. Fun track and great fans. Check out the JHR video from Fairbury to see some great racing action.

JHR Week 6 Results

Attica Raceway Park, Attica, OH (05/06/2011) – 30 Late Models in attendance. Started 10th in the third heat race finished 6th. Started 3rd in the B-main finished 1st. Started 16th in the feature finished 6th. Tough night all around and it started with a fast race track and having to start on the tail of a very tough heat race. It was much more difficult to pass and made for a challenge as we tried for five in a row. I worked my way through the field the best I could but unfortunately just didn’t have enough time to go all the way. The result ended our impressive four race win streak.

Oakshade Raceway, Wauseon, OH (05/07/2011) – 25 Late Models in attendance. Started 5th in the second heat race finished 2nd. Started 7th in the feature DNF. Unfortunate night as I felt like we had a pretty fast racecar. Started 7th in the feature and was passing for fourth coming out of turn two when contact was made causing my right rear tire to go flat. As quick as I just wrote it our night was over…bummer. Looking forward to shaking this weekend off in week 7.

JHR Week 5 Results- Four in a Row!

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 12:23 pm

Attica Raceway Park, Attica, OH (04/29/2011) – 31 Late Models in attendance. Started 9th in the second heat race finished 2nd. Started 12th in the feature finished 1st for our fourth win in a row at Attica! Wow four in a row, I never thought our season would start out this good. Patience was the key for win number four. Starting 12th gave me a bit more of a challenge but still one goal in mind, ‘finish the race’. I slowly picked off one car at a time as I hugged the bottom and kept my car as straight as possible. Two early cautions kept the field bunched up but we then went 20 laps caution free. The racing surface was much dryer then it had been previous weeks so tire management played into factor. I was able to be consist and by lap eighteen pass race leader Rusty Schlenk and cruise a half straightaway lead to win four in a row at Attica!

I-96 Speedway, Lake Odessa, MI (04/30/2011) – 38 Late Models in attendance. Started 10th in the first heat race finished 3rd. Started 7th in the feature finished 3rd. The race track took some getting used to as it was my first time ever at the speedway. I never felt very comfortable in the racecar and the racing surface was slick and dusty. Before the feature started the track officials decided to put water around the bottom to try and control the dust but that only created more problems. I also struggled to get through the holes in three and four and was fortunate to come home with a 3rd place finish.
