Brownstown Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 7:45 pm

Sept. 24th and 25th-Brownstown Speedway (Brownstown, IN) ‘Jackson 100’ 53 cars in attendance. Qualified 16th fastest in group two. We struggled from the beginning in my first ever Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series appearance. I started 8th in a tough fourth heat race and wasn’t able to advance any positions with an 8th place finish. The racing surface was very black slick which made for some difficult passing. Tires as always are a major deal and we just weren’t prepared for the various combinations. I started 8th in the second b-main and still wasn’t able to progress with a 7th place finish. A another learning experience this weekend as they continue to hit pretty hard these last couple months. Although we haven’t had as much success as the last several years we still manage to make some noise with what we have to work with. We will continue to build from our losses. I hope to hit a few more races before the 2010 racing season comes to an end.

World 100 Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 12:42 pm

Sept. 10th & 11th-Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, OH) ‘World 100’ 134 cars in attendance. Qualified 28th quick with a time of 16.042. The invert for the heat races was a six which placed me on the outside front row of the fourth heat. This was a great opportunity to have a shot at making the biggest dirt late model race in the country. Rain made things interesting on Saturday as the track prep continued far beyond initial start time. Once the racing surface was in shape the first heat race rolled on the track. A one grooved muddy mess for the first couple heats but the track continued to shape up. When the fourth heat was up I knew it was time to get up on the wheel and be ready for hammer down conditions. When the green flag waved the inside car tired to push me up the race track making contact with my left rear tire causing it to tear apart instantly…So one straightaway and I was already back in the pits. We were able to get the tire changed but I wasn’t able to get back out on the track quick enough to catch up to the rear of the field. I was a half a track behind and within two laps under green I caught up to the rear of the field. My brakes started to quit working and when I bobbled on the massive cushion my left rear axle and tube twisted completely off. My car went spinning out of control with my tire bouncing high into the catch fence. Thankfully it stayed inside the track and came to a rest beside my car. One thing lead to the next and yet another disappointing finish at Eldora. We continue to make baby steps at these big races and although the results went there we made some big gains. Look forward to the next couple weeks.

Eldora Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 11:50 pm

Sept. 5th-Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, OH) 52 Late Models and 51 Modifieds in attendance. Another Sunoco America Late Model event. Qualified quick time in group five in the late model with a 16.1. The invert started me in fourth in the fifth heat race. With the race track so fast at the top it made passing difficult and I wasn’t able to advance a position and would have to run the b-main. Started 2nd in the B and after a quick 12 laps my car was just really not there. I fell back to 3rd and missed the show by one spot.

In modified racing I drew a 60 that put me 8th in the third heat race. One mission in mind, smooth and consistent and bring home my first Eldora championship. I had a long way to go in the heat but didn’t waste any time. After lap one I was already up to third and right on the leaders. I played it conservative with a 2nd place finish that locked me into the A-main. Eldora has bit me hard the last several races that has put me in this pressure situation of one point out of the points lead. Starting 8th with one goal in mind ‘finish the race’. Long story short successful finished a solid 6th place and lock up my very first Eldora Speedway Championship! Icing on the cake! 4 years 4 straight championships includes 3 different tracks and one series. Thank you for all your support throughout 2010! Next on the schedule is the World 100 and I know a lot of you will be in attendance, I’m sure you won’t miss me as my new Wide Open Graphics wrap will turn a few heads! Look forward to seeing most of you there.

Oakshade Win

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 10:15 pm

Sept. 4th-Oakshade Raceway (Wauseon, OH) 43 entries. Sunoco American Late Model Series event. Drew a 17 which started me 3rd in the second heat race. Tough competition in the heat but was still able to rally from third to grab the heat race win. Redrew the number four starting position for the feature. The racing surface was to my liking, smooth and slick, but a little bit of moisture on the bottom. When the Green flag waved I tried to work the middle of the race track until the track started to slow down. We had a caution on lap 2 and that was the last time the field was bunched up. 28 laps later after working the bottom and cautiously working my way around lap cars I was able to hold off Jeff Babcock for my first ALMS win of the season!
