Lawrenceburg DTWC-Results
Oct 17th & 18th-Lawrenceburg Speedway (Lawrenceburg IN), Dirt Track World Championship. 59 modifieds were in attendance. I qualified second fastest overall and first fastest in my group with a 17.3 which was a great start to the weekend! The race track was very slick for qualifying and slower seemed to be faster. They lined up our heat race heads up and I started on the pole. I was able to stay smooth around the bottom and lead every lap for the heat win. The six heat race winners redrew for the top six starting spots and unfortunately I drew the number six and would start 6th in the feature. My dad wasn’t feeling well all day and Saturday night we had to take him to the hospital. He’s going to be ok just needed some rest and we were without him on Sunday. All the features were run on Sunday and the mod feature was last on the list. We made some changes in the morning to try and get some more traction in the racecar. By the time the late models ran a 100 lap feature and the non-wing sprints ran a 25 lap feature the race track was right around the same condition it was the day before. My main goal was to stay out of trouble and finish the race. When the race started I felt pretty comfortable and rode around in 5th for awhile. At about halfway through the race I was up to 4th but slowly started to fade. I was trying ever line I could on the race track searching for a faster groove but still couldn’t find an edge. Once the 30 lap feature came to a checker I was able to pull off a nice 5th place finish. Not a bad weekend for only racing the mod a hand full of times this year. As of right now were not sure if we’ll race anymore this year but I’ll keep everyone posted.

UMP Nationals-Results
Oct 11th-Eldora Speedway (Rossburg OH), (Final Sunoco ALMS race) UMP Fall Nationals. 56 late models and 115 modifieds were in attendance. This race was supposed to be a two day show but due to heavy rain on Friday Eldora was forced to race the entire show on Saturday. My day didn’t start out the greatest with the late model as I spun out while qualifying. I had to start at the tail of my heat race but quickly made a charge to the front. I made my way into fourth until almost looping the car again having to settle for fifth place finish. I started 3rd in the b-main and only two cars would transfer. After running second the whole race I was passed by Randy Korte on the last lap and lost the final transfer spot. Thankfully I was able to use my Sunoco provisional to start the feature. It’s difficult to start in the back at Eldora and drive to the front but that’s what makes you a better driver. 25th place was where I’d start from with a Sunoco championship on the line. Everything was going great and I had worked my way up to 13th with 15 laps still to go until I felt a quick vibration and then snapped the driveshaft. I think I ran over something on the race track that caused the shaft to break. Very unfortunate cause we had a really good car. Even with a DNF 22nd place finish we were still able to hold a 12 point lead over Brian Ruhlman who finished 6th, and claim my first ever series championship! Not only the points champion but the rookie title as well. We also claimed the UMP national Rookie of the year award and 7th in the UMP national point standing. What a great first season! I would like to give a special thanks to Shane and Jennifer Halcomb, UNOH, JEGS, Professional Drywall, and Wide Open Graphics for all their support and I would also like to thank Eldora Speedway and the fans for a great season!
