South Buxton Raceway-Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 7:47 pm

Sept 26th-South Buxton Raceway (Merlin, ONT, Canada). 20 late models were in attendance. I drew a number 29 and would start 4th in the second heat race. The racing surface had suffered a lot of rain during the week and with cooler temperatures and overcast skies the track held a lot of moisture in it. The heat race went green to checker and I managed a 2nd place finish. The track was really muddy and hard to pass. It was so muddy that after the heat race ended we had over 200 lbs of mud stuck to the car. I knew the feature wasn’t going to be much fun but I drew the 5th place starting spot and my main goal was to stay out of trouble and finish the race. After a 35 lap feature with a hand full of cautions and fog starting to set in on the raceway I was able to hold it together and come home with a 4th place finish. Not a bad night due to the racing conditions. As of now we are unsure as of now what the plans are for this weekend but we do plan on racing.

Waynefield Raceway Park-Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 10:31 pm

Sept 20th-Waynesfield Raceway Park (Waynesfield OH). 24 late models, 39 modifieds. I drew a number five with the late model and an 18 for the mod. In the late model I started on the pole of the second heat race and lead every lap for the heat win. I started on the outside front row in the fourth mod heat and also led every lap for the heat win. I would then start 5th in the late model feature and on the pole of the mod feature. The late model feature went green to checker and I was able to pull off a second place finish. Had we maybe had a caution I feel I would have had a shot for the win, but we just went as good in lap traffic. The mod feature didn’t go as well. I got the quick led and lead till about halfway until I was passed. I then drove into turn one to hard catching the leader’s quarter panel causing me to have a flat right front tire that resulted in a DNF. It’s a hard transition to make when I race the late model for a couple months and then try to jump back in the modified and be a good as I was. If I jumped back and forth all the time I don’t think it would be a problem but I get so use to the speed and the handling of the late model that I start to over drive the modified. But I learned a lot and I’ll stay focused on the Late Model for rest of the season. We head to Canada this Saturday for the 09 shootout at South Buxton Raceway.

Eldora Speedway World 100-Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 11:07 pm

Sept 11th & 12th-Eldora Speedway (Rossburg OH), World 100. 172 cars were in attendance. I qualified 82nd fastest with a 17.932 not my best effort but we were locked into the top 120. The race track was very slick for qualifying which proved that setup and experience was key for a good time. Our time gave us a 14th place starting position in the third heat race on Saturday. My whole goal coming into this weekend was to finish the heat race and hopefully make it to a B-main. Starting 14th with the best drivers in the country can make passing difficult, but I was able to cruise through the 15 lap heat race and cross the line with an 8th place finish. First goal accomplished I made it to a B, next goal was to finish the B and move forward. I had to start 15th in second B-main. I tired the top, middle, bottom just trying to figure out where I could be the fastest. I was only able to advance a couple positions but I moved forward and figured out a lot about the racecar. Mission accomplished, I learned a lot this weekend and gain some crucial seat time. We’ll call it a successful weekend and get prepared for some local races around home as our season starts to come to a close.

Eldora Speedway-Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 9:56 pm

Sept 6th-Eldora Speedway (Rossburg OH), (ALMS) Sunoco America Late Model Series event. 65 cars were in attendance. We just got our new motor back and had one race on it and broke it in hotlaps. I had to get in our back-up car that my teammate Aaron Scott was racing. I qualified fourth fastest in group five. Started on the pole of the fifth heat race and finished 2nd. Was going to start 11th in the feature but steady rain forced Eldora to cancel the event.

64 mods in attendance. Started 7th in the heat race won the heat and was going to start on the outside front row in the feature.

Oakshade Raceway Win-Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 1:27 pm

Sept 5th-Oakshade Raceway (Wauseon OH), (ALMS) Sunoco America Late Model Series event. 43 cars were in attendance. I drew a number four and would start on the pole of the third heat race. The heat went green to checker and I led every lap for the heat win. I redrew the lucky number one starting position for the feature. Previous “Dream” winner Matt Miller started on the outside front row. I had a good start but was passed before the first lap was completed. I followed Matt around for the first 15 laps until lap traffic started to play a factor. I was able to work the bottom and sqeeze past lap cars as Matt struggled at the top. I continued to increase my lead as laps started to wine down. The race went green to checker and I was able to hold off Matt Miller for yet another win at Oakshade. What a special night! It was fourth win in a row at Oakshade, fourth win with the Sunoco series, and we drew a number four to start out the night. I would like to give a special thanks to Shane and Jennifer Halcomb, UNOH, JEGS, Professional Drywall. And Wide Open Graphics for all their support and I would also like to thank Oakshade Raceway and the fans for a great season!
