I-55 Raceway-Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 10:57 am

July 29th- I-55 Raceway (Pevely MO), 79 cars were in attendance for the Ken Schrader Modified Challenge. I qualified 3rd fastest in group number one which was a mess. They didn’t have enough transponders for 79 cars so they had to change them around from car to car. Then they evidently didn’t get all the times in my group so we had to requalify. After wasting a couple hours I was still third fastest in group one. Started third in the first heat and on a very slick race track could not make any passes and finished third with only two cars transferring. I then had to start on the pole of the first B and only the winner would transfer to the A. Let’s just say things didn’t go my way. On the initial start we were coming around turn three when the guy on the outside front row decided he was going to start the race. He took off in turn three and I figured they were going to call it back and have a complete restart because I was supposed to start the race coming out of turn four. Well I was wrong and now I had a lot of ground to make up. Still very little passing went on and I just didn’t have the racecar where it need to be. Unfortunately we finished 2nd and didn’t make the show. We had a decent car things just didn’t fall into place. When you’re at a new race track trying new things with some of the best drivers around it makes it a tough deal. No worries we’ll head to Brownstown IN tonight and try again.

Oakshade Raceway Win-Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 10:13 pm

July 25th-Oakshade Raceway (Wauseon OH), 38 cars were in attendance. I drew a 54 which gave me a 6th place starting position in heat number three. The heat race went very well, I was able to work my to the front and pull off the heat win. I had a good feeling about the night and felt really comfortable in the racecar. I redrew the number two spot for the feature which was the idle starting position. It was an interesting start to the A-main as I was coming out of turn two when I was forced up almost into the backstretch wall causing me to lose several positions. I regained the wheel and started to work my way back to the front. With seven laps to go I was able to take the lead and win my second race of the season at Oakshade. I would like to thank Shane and Jennifer Halcomb, UNOH, JEGS, Professional Drywall, Wide Open Graphics, and DRR for all their support and I would also like to thank Oakshade Raceway and the fans.

Attica Raceway Park-Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 3:47 pm

July 24th-Attica Raceway Park (Attica OH), (World of Outlaws) 52 cars were in attendance. I qualified 27th fastest with a 15.1. Started 7th in the third heat race and on a fast track I was not able to advance any positions and finished 7th. I then started 5th in the second B-main, was battling for third till I fell back a few spots finishing 5th falling to transfer by two cars. It’s amazing how much you learn when you race with a national touring series. I’m not disappointed about anything we were competitive and are headed in the right direction, just got a few things to work on.

Fremont Speedway-Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 2:25 pm

July 18th-Fremont Speedway (Fremont OH), (ALMS) Sunoco America Late Model Series event, 22 cars were in attendance. I qualified second fastest in group number two. I started 3rd in the second heat race and the struggle started there. I wasn’t able to find grip on the race track and fell back to a 4th place finish. An 11th place starting spot for the feature is not the best to be on a tight track when things get heated. Yet things started out ok, I had slowly made my way up to 7th at about half way until a caution brought us all together. I started to roll on the top in one and two before the caution so on the restart that’s where I was headed. That seemed like a good plan at the time but that didn’t turn out so hott. On the restart I was getting ready to enter turn two when everyone started checking up hard. I tried to check up but got hit from behind and then plowed into the car in front of me. Lets just say it felt like I was in a demo derby and my car had seen its better days. Even with a bent up car I still managed to drag it around the track for a 9th place finish. It wasn’t pretty and I think only 11 cars finished the race but when your points racing you just can’t afford to pull off. Congrats to Ryan Missler on his win. We’ll regroup and focus on this weekend.

Attica Raceway Park-Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 10:46 pm

July 17th-Attica Raceway Park (Attica OH), 28 cars were in attendance. I drew a number 28 which gave me a 6th place starting spot in the first heat race. I took the lead by lap three and on the final lap of the heat I was coming out of turn two when I once again rolled my shoulder out of place. I was able to regroup and still manage a 2nd place finish. I redrew the outside pole position for the feature. The race track had a fast groove around the top but you had to hit it just right to be fast. I took the early lead and rode the high side for the first four laps. When I started missing my mark I felt the pressure from behind and thought I’d try a different line. I lost the lead half way through the race but never gave up. With two laps to go I made a hard charge and was side by side for the lead but unfortunately a late caution moved me back to second. Once we resumed their just wasn’t enough laps to make a move and I had to settle for another second place finish. I’m happy with the way things turned out but I’m getting concerned about my shoulder. Congrats to Doug Drown on his win.

Oakshade Raceway-Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 11:32 am

July 11th-Oakshade Raceway (Wauseon OH), (Summer Nationals) 57 cars were in attendance. I qualified 6th fastest in group number one. Made a few mistakes which had us playing catch up all night. Started 6th in the heat race finished 5th. The car was a little off in the heat but a few adjustments and we were right where we needed to be. Started 6th in the b-main and car was really good, I was passing for second when the car beside me turn down the racetrack slumming me into an inside tire destroying my front nose. But no compliments we raced with good cars and just need to work harder next time. Experience is what you get when you don’t get what you want… and that sums up my weekend.

Waynesfield Raceway Park-Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 8:56 am

July 10th-Waynesfield Raceway Park (Waynesfield OH), (Summer Nationals) 28 cars were in attendance. I qualified 4th fastest in group number three. Started 4th in the heat finished 6th. I was really struggling with the racecar all night. Started 3rd in the b-main and finished 5th and only three cars transferred. It was a tough night all around, very good racecars and a fast race track that was hard to pass on. We’ll just take it as a learning experience and move on.

First Win at Oakshade Raceway-Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 2:18 pm

July 4th-Oakshade Raceway (Wauseon OH), 36 cars were in attendance. I drew a number 57 which gave me a 7th place starting position in the second heat race. The heat race went green to checker. By lap two I was battling for the lead and by the finish I was a half track ahead. It was one of those nights where the car was just working about anywhere. I redrew a number two starting position for the feature. I felt like I had the car to beat and if I could get out front it was going to be hard pass me. After one complete restart and 25 laps of green flag racing I was able to lead every lap and pulled off my first win at Oakshade Raceway! It was a great feeling and the racecar was right where it need to be. I would like to give a special thanks to the Yoder family for their kind donation in memory of John Yoder, Oakshade Raceway and the fans, and would like to thank Shane and Jennifer Halcomb, UNOH, JEGS, Professional Drywall, Wide Open Graphics, and DRR for all their support.

Attica Raceway Park-Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 9:56 am

July, 3rd-Attica Raceway Park (Attica OH), 32 cars were in attendance. I drew a number 32 which gave me a 6th place starting spot in the first heat race. The race track had some good moisture in it which made for a fast heat. The momentum was at the top and passing cars was a challenge but after a caution free heat race I was able to make it up to a 3rd place finish. Three cars out of four heats redrew for starting positions and out of 12 numbers I drew the number 12. I knew I was going to have to be patient and slowly work my way up. On lap 4 I was working the bottom battling for 7th when my shoulder once again popped out. I tried to get the car under control and when I went into the next turn I entered to low and caught the inside tire causing me to spin out. The caution came out and I resumed at the tail. After the last 15 laps I was able to go for 20th to pull off an 8th place finish. Sometimes you just got to take what you can get and move on to the next race.
