Oakshade Raceway-Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 1:14 pm

June 27th-Oakshade Raceway (Wauseon, OH) 33 cars were in attendance. I drew a 65 which gave me a 6th place starting spot in the first heat race. A very interesting heat race it was…I was up to third when the car in front of me blasted an inside tire spinning around catching my right rear quarter panel destroying it, meanwhile I was losing my brakes. I lost all my brakes on about lap five and was really struggling but hung on for a 3rd place finish. Only the top two redrew so I would start 9th in the feature. I was patient at the beginning and picked off one car at a time. We had made it past half way until our first caution and I had worked my way up to third place. With about seven laps to go I knew I had a shot. I moved into second and was chasing down the leader. When the white flag waved I was right where I need to be. As I was coming out of turn four for the checkered I gave it all I had which made for a side by side finish. Unfortunately I was just a little short at the line and had to settle for yet another second place finish at Oakshade. Our car was really good we just had to start to far back and not enough laps. With one more lap who knows what would have happened but congrats to Tyler Boggs on his first feature win. After the races were over the top ten in points got to do an Australian Pursuit for $250 dollars. Basically it’s ten laps and if you get passed you pull off the track. I started 8th and was able to pass all the cars in front of me and take home the cash. Yet another one two weekend! Upcoming races: Attica Raceway Park July 3rd, and Oakshade Raceway July 4th.

Limaland Motorsports Park-Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 1:13 pm

June 26th-Limaland Motorsports Park (Lima, OH) My first appearance since I won the track championship in 2008. 19 cars were in attendance. I drew a 54 which gave me a 7th place starting spot in the first heat race. The heat went green to checker and I managed a 3rd place finish. The race track was in excellent condition and very racey. After a 40 lap sprint car feature I knew I’d have to search around to find moisture. I would start 5th for the 20 lap feature event. We had a caution on lap seven and I was in 4th place. I was running the bottom at the time and wasn’t gaining much ground. On the restart I put my car right in the middle and the car was setup perfect for that situation. There was just enough moisture to hold my car through the middle. By lap nine I was racing for the lead…and by lap twenty I was celebrating my first win of 09 at LMP! This win also qualified me for the king of the quarter mile race pay $2000 to win at the end of the year. The night couldn’t have gone any better and it was a lot of fun being back at the track I grew up around. Special thanks to Limaland, the crew, and the fans. I’d also like to thank my Dad (Jim Henry), Intimidator racecars, William H. Bass Trucking, Wide Open Graphics, UNOH, Augsberger Taxidermy, Hughes Body shop, Four Seasons, Little mexico, and ICI paints for all your support. Thanks.

Oakshade Raceway-Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 6:49 pm

June 20th-Oakshade Raceway (Wauseon, OH) 41 cars were in attendance. I drew a 26 which gave me a 4th place starting spot in the third heat race. I had a terrible start and fell back to around 7th and I had to play catch-up. Due to all the rain the track was surprisingly in really slick conditions which made it difficult to pass, but I was able to make my way back up to a 3rd place finish in the heat. Oakshade officials watered the race track right before the feature which made tire selection difficult. I started 11th and after 30 laps I creeped into a top 5 with a 5th place finish. Much better than last night and we continue to lead the Sunoco American Late Model point standings over past champion Brian Ruhlman. Congrat to Matt Miller once again for his win.

Moler Raceway Park-Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 7:24 pm

June 19th-Moler Raceway Park (Williamsburg, OH) 36 cars were in attendance. I drew a 43 which gave me a 5th place starting spot in the first heat race. The heat went green to checker and I worked my way to a 3rd place finish. I would start 7th in the feature. We had a caution on lap one and I was already up to 3rd. On the restart I missed my mark and fell back a few spots. When I was coming down the backstretch I brushed the wall just a little bit and cut down a right front tire. Unfortunately that ended our night with a DNF. One of those nights you’d like a do-over. Oh well we’ll move on to Oakshade tomorrow. Congrats to Jerry Bowersock on his win.

2nd at Oakshade Raceway-Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 10:23 pm

June 13th-Oakshade Raceway (Wauseon, OH) 42 cars were in attendance. I drew a number 20 which gave me a 3rd place starting spot in the second heat race. Doug Drown was supposed to start in front of me in the heat but after more ignition problems he had to scratch. I then started on the pole and lead every lap for the heat race win. I redrew a number 4 starting spot for the feature. 40 laps with $4500 to win was the winning prize for the Barney Oldfield. I got a good start and was rolling early. We had a caution on lap 9 and I had made my way to 2nd. On the restart I was punted in turn two causing me to lose a few spots and a bent left front spindle. I drove through it worked my way back to second and started to close on the leader. Lap traffic played a big factor, I was stuck behind a couple cars and struggled to find a way around them. With two laps to go we had a caution and I could hardly keep my car in a straight line. On the last restart I didn’t have anything for the leader and just hung on for a second place finish. Another solid weekend, we’re really starting to get things figured out! Congrats to winner Matt Miller. Upcoming Races: Friday June 19th Sunoco ALMS at Moler Raceway Park(might get cancelled, if so we will be at Attica Raceway Park), then on Saturday June 20th Sunoco ALMS at Oakshade Raceway.

Win at Attica Raceway Park-Results!

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 9:32 pm

June, 12th-Attica Raceway Park (Attica OH) 21 cars were in attendance. I drew a 43 which gave me a 6th place starting spot in the third heat. A fast heat race as the track had a lot of moisture in it from all the rain during the week, but I worked my to a 3rd place finish. I drew a number six starting position for the feature. After a 30 lap sprint car feature the track started to slow down and blow dust. I had my mind set to hug the bottom and try to stay out of trouble. I started to work my way through the field and by the half way point we were four wide for the lead. I cruised into second following leader Doug Drown. I was slowly reeling Doug in until we had a caution with four laps to go. On the restart I was able to make the pass for the lead in turn one and two and then coming out of four we were side by side until another late caution. When we got the one lap signal to go green Drown’s car had an ignition problem and would not start back up. Unfortunate for Doug and the fans cause we had a great battle heating up. But after all that I was left with the lead and three laps to hold on. It was smooth sailing for the last three laps and we got our second win of the season! I would like to give a special thanks to Shane and Jennifer Halcomb, UNOH, JEGS, Professional Drywall, Wide Open Graphics, Rocket Chassis, and DRR. Tonight we will be at Oakshade Raceway for the Barney Oldfield paying $4500 to win.

Dream Week-update

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 9:41 pm

Qualified 69th fastest out of 116 entries. Started 12th in the third heat race. Was running 9th until I came in contact with the outside wall in turn number 2 ending my dream weekend. Unfortunately it wasn’t my best effort but I feel I can learn a lot from this experience. Sorry for the late updates but it has just been a string of long days, but thanks for all your support.

Jon

We start off this Wednesday at Eldora Speedway for the Prelude to the Dream. NASCAR driver David Reutimann will be driving our dirt Late Model! A new vinyl wrap has been added like the double zero Aarons Dream Machine Sprint Cup car thanks to Wide Open Graphics. Also along board UNOH (University of Northwestern Ohio) and Beringer Vineyards.

On Friday and Saturday it’s the dirt late model “Dream” at Eldora. My teammate Aaron Scott and I will be attempting to make the biggest pay weekend in dirt late model racing $100,000 to win.
