Another Great Night-Waynesfield-Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 11:42 pm

April, 26th-Waynesfield Raceway Park (Waynesfield OH), 20 Late Models were in attendance. I drew a 94 which give me a 6th place starting spot in the second heat race. The track was once again very tough to keep moisture in it due to windy conditions but after 8 laps we had a solid 3rd place finish in the second heat. The inversion was an eight for the feature which started me in the 8th position. I started right behind veteran Matt Miller and tried to follow him through the pack until that door was shut quickly. I was able to catch up in mid pack for a couple laps until I started really rolling good. A long green flag run really helped my tires kick in, I went from 8th to a 3rd place finish behind winner Matt Miller and runner up Wayne Chinn. Our consistency is really starting to show what we are capable of this season. Another great night of racing to top off this successful weekend! Thanks to all the fans for their support! Upcoming races: May 1st Attica Raceway Park , May 2nd Oakshade Raceway

A Win I Wont forget! Waynesfield-Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 9:11 am

April, 25th-Waynesfield Raceway Park (Waynesfield OH), 25 Modifieds were in attendance. I drew a 48 which give me a 4th place starting spot in the first heat race. The track was very dry due to sunny and windy conditions all day but I kept my car smooth around the bottom and pulled off the heat race win! The inversion was a six so it gave me a 6th place starting spot for the feature. Before we went on the track the Waynesfield officials put water at the top of the race track to hopefully make another groove of racing. At the start of the race it was still to slimy to run the top so I rode around in sixth for a couple laps as it was a train around the bottom. As soon as I felt comfortable I started running the high side passing one car at a time. I got into second with five laps to go and knew it was going to be a challenge to catch the leader as lap traffic was closing. I had the advantage because no one was racing the high line. It was a fight to the end as I battled with the leader side by side for the last two laps. But on the fourth turn of the final lap I was able to edge hot shoe Jeff Babcock to the line by a nose! Wow it feels really good to finally get my first victory of 2009, I’ve never had this much fun on the track as I did tonight, it was definitely a win I won’t forget. And more importantly the fans loved it which makes it even more special to me. Lesson learned; don’t take wins for granted because you never know how long it’ll take to get the next one. I have been very thankful and blessed. Tonight we will be back at Waynesfield with the Late Model.

Big Congrats to Dean Miracle and Waynesfield for a very successful night and a very smooth program! Thanks

Attica Raceway Park-Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 7:22 pm

April, 24th-Attica Raceway Park (Attica OH), 30 cars were in attendance. I drew a 23 which give me a 4th place starting spot in the third heat race. I was fine at the start of the race riding around in third until my tires got to warm causing the racecar to have a big push. I struggled to get the car around the track so I pulled off. Started 3rd in the B-main finished 1st. I then had to start 17th in the feature and was able to be smooth and constant right around the bottom and pulled off a 4th place finish! Off to Waynesfield tonight with the Modified and then the Late Model at Waynesfield on Sunday.

Eldora Speedway-Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 2:14 pm

April, 18th-Eldora Speedway (Rossburg OH), 46 cars were in attendance. Among those cars, Matt Miller, Jeep VanWormer, Brad Neat, Scott James, and a good host of ALMS drivers in attendance. I qualified 4th fastest in group two which led to a pole position after inverting the top four. I was able to grab the led going into turn one and lead every lap for another heat race win! I redrew a number four starting position for the feature. A little rusty start in the feature, my car was a little tight at first and I was struggling a bit. On lap two going into turn one I got a nudge from the side causing me to spin out in front of the entire field. I was able to escape with no damage and resume at tail end of the field. After 23 more laps I found a good fast line around the bottom and was able to work my way up to a solid 5th place finish. Going to the tail was probably the best thing for me, it gave me a second to breathe and see if I was capable of passing cars and making it back up to the front. We tried a few different things to the racecar that’s really going to get us were we need to be this season. I have been able to stay constant and finish races which have lead to my ultimate goal so far to get as much seat time and experience as possible. Upcoming races: April 24th at Attica Raceway, April 25th at Waynesfield with the Mod, and then April 26th at Waynesfield with the LM.

In the Modified I drew a 78 which led to an 11th place starting spot in heat number three. I climbed my way up to a 4th place finish. I started 15th in the feature and after 17 laps I worked my way up to a 9th place finish.

Attica Raceway Park-Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 9:34 am

April, 17th-Attica Raceway Park (Attica OH), 54 cars were in attendance. Among those cars, Matt Miller, Jeep VanWormer, and a good host of ALMS drivers in attendance. I drew a 55 which give me a 9th place starting spot in the third heat race. It was a tough battle to the front but after ten laps I was able to take the lead and hold off Jeep VanWormer for the heat race win! I redrew a number two starting position for the feature. Starting on the outside front row was idle but when the green flagged waved Matt Miller took charge until jumping the cushion in turn two giving me the lead. I was able to pull away with the lead for about 6 laps until my car started to dramatically change. I struggled to hold on and ended up fading back to a 9th place finish. We just haven’t got the car were it needs to be for the feature yet and I still have a lot to learn. But no worries today is a new day and were off to Eldora Speedway tonight!

Kamp Motor Speedway-Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 6:16 pm

April, 11th-Kamp Motor Speedway (Boswell IN), 54 cars were in attendance for the Sunoco ALMS season opener. I qualified 4th fastest in group number 2. ALMS usually inverts four cars for the heat race but due to being co-sanctioned with Northern All-stars series there was no inversion. I started 4th in the second heat race and on lap two was able to take lead and maintain for the heat race win. The winners of each heat race redrew for starting spots for the feature and I drew the number 5. The race track was in pretty rough conditions for the feature. I had a good start until lap 2 when I hit a rut causing my shoulder to pop out and I lost control of the steering wheel. I got the car under control and resumed racing at the rear of the field. I started working my way back through the pack until a car in front of me lost it on the front stretch catching my right rear tire sending me sailing in the air. I came down very hard and was not able to finish as my car suffered a flat right rear tire and bent up suspension parts. On a positive note Shane had the car extremely fast and I felt very comfortable. I’m really looking forward to this coming weekend as we will be back at my favorite track Eldora Speedway with both the Late Model and the Mod! Next race is April 17th at Attica Raceway Park and then April 18th at Eldora Speedway.

Attica Results

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 9:10 pm

(April, 4th) Attica Raceway Park, 34 cars were in attendance. I drew a 33 which give me a 5th place starting spot in the fourth heat race. After the first lap of the heat race I was already up to second! I was able to maintain a 2nd place finish behind winner Matt Miller and for the second straight weekend drew a number one starting position for the feature. The outside line was preferred and by starting on the inside it was a race to the first corner. I was not able to take the lead and dropped back to second. I made a few mistakes but was able to relax and close back in on the leader until a caution came out midway through the race. Once we resumed racing I couldn’t seem to hit my mark and fell back a few more positions. In the end I was able to hold off for another 5th place finish. Next race April 10th at Kankakee IL and then were off to Boswell, IN April 11th, both races are ALMS events.

Filed under: JHR Blogs — jon @ 7:46 am

Our game plan is to race at Attica Raceway park this Friday night. The weather is not looking so good but if Attica cancels on Friday they will reschedule for Saturday. Hopefully no matter what we get some racing in the weekend!
